Pelican Island Wildlife Festival

Saturday, March 10, 2007, 9am - 4pm
Riverview Park, Sebastian, Florida

Community officials and volunteers expect thousands of visitors to converge on Sebastian’s Riverview Park on Saturday, March 10 to join in celebrating the 15th annual Pelican Island Wildlife Festival. The Wildlife Festival celebrates the nation’s 1st National Wildlife Refuge, Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge, and showcases the area’s unique nature, wildlife and community alliances.

This year’s Wildlife Festival will be a one-day event in Sebastian’s Riverview Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 11th, with a special Run Wild for Wildlife 5K run/walk kicking off the event at 7:00am. Live wildlife shows, live music, arts & crafts, pontoon boat and kayak tours, kid’s activities, storytelling and plenty of food usually attract over 7,000 people to the festival, said Joanna Taylor, Refuge Ranger with Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge. All activities offered at the event are free with exception to discounted rates for pontoon boat tours and 5K run and kayaking event. Society members, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the City of Sebastian are the main event organizers. The events main goal is environmental education and all funds raised go directly to help fund projects at Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge. Since most activities at the event are free to the public, the festival’s success relies on sponsors, partners, and many volunteers.
